Paper on World Literature
In its rationalist form, this celebration of experience was an assertion of
rights, self-evidence and universalism. It was an affirmation of the
present. It was called Enlightenment. It was a period of rapid change as the
nation was changing from agriculture to an industrial one. Along with other
revolutions, literary revolution was also approaching very fast. The
publication of Lyrical Ballads By Wordsworth and Coleridge in 1789 was a
landmark and according to some critics this was the starting of romanticism
and after the publication of the Ballads, many best known romantic poems
followed.
Easy on Man is also an affirmative poem which reflects faith. In Pope’s
world God has a distinct place. Though the limited intellect of man can only
comprehend a tiny portion of His divinity. Pope wrote the Essay on Man was
to put the ethics in its correct perspective through poetic form. He
set out to demonstrate that it does not matter how imperfect, inscrutable,
imperfect and evil the Universe may appear to be, the function of the
Universe will be in a rational fashion It will follow the national laws and
it will be a perfect work of God. Due to our feeble moral and intellectual
capacity we don’t understand the world perfectly and sensibly.

must see for himself or herself. He should find the truth and its validity.
The right and reasonable was always there to be found. This kind of thinking
and attitude is responsible for overthrowing the inert monarchical
