A term paper is a comprehensive academic piece of writing that focuses and tests 3 main things; a student’s researching, understanding and analysis of a course related field of study. This task is usually assigned at the end of a semester and goes a long way to influence the student’s grade point average.
A term paper can be written on literature, history, economics, technology,
sociology and a host of broad categories. Due to the weight given to a term
paper, many students feel pressurized and uneasy when writing a term paper
and often get the order of a term paper wrong. This article will list and
explain the widely used and accepted order of a term paper.
Title page
The first element of the order of a term paper is the title page. This
portion addresses the audience. It contains information such as the title of
your chosen topic, your name, your professor’s and the course’s name and
your affiliation with the educational institute.
Thesis statement
Start with a thesis statement and a brief description. A
thesis statement is a short, concise sentence that depicts your stance
and argument on the topic chosen. It tells the reader what this term paper
is going to attempt to prove or disprove. In sentence or two, further expand
the thesis statement.
Introduction
The introductory paragraph is the most important part of the term paper; it
can make or break it. This paragraph is what sets the pace for the reader
and creates the first impression. Develop an introduction that is engaging,
engaging and descriptive.
Main body
The main body comes next in the order of a term paper. Here is where you
present all your research, findings and illustrations. In these paragraphs
you will provide the supporting matter and evidence to complement your
thesis statement.
Conclusion
It is widely misunderstood that the
conclusion is the last step in the order of a term paper. It contains
the summary of your entire term paper and attempt to re-enforce the thesis
statement in light of the research carried out. A well written conclusion
can create a strong, persuasive impact on the reader.
Bibliography
This is the last step in the order of a term paper. This portion lists the
references, citations and the various sources used to provide supporting
evidence for your term paper. You must give credit where it is due and avoid
copying someone else’s work. This part reflects well on your character and
ethical values.
