The word torture has been derived from the Latin word torture which means “to twist”. Torture can be defined as deliberately giving someone rigorous pain to obtain something. It includes physical and mental tortures like electric shocks, drugs inflictions, tooth withdrawals, sexual assaults, uncomfortable extremes of heat and cold and other similar ways to harm bodies and minds of human beings. The purpose of torture is either to encourage or discourage human beings for certain cause.

From the argument against torture, it has been revealed that torture has no positive consequences; instead it results in de-motivation in long run. If people are not satisfied whole heartedly, they cannot join hands for a longer period of time. Victims either become terrorists or join criminals’ gang to take revenge of the anguish they have tolerated. It results in displeased society where everyone lives with fear. This is the reason; in many countries, torture has been considered as an illegal act and labeled as crime.

Physical and psychological agony can fetch victims closed to death, or even cause loss of lives, which is totally unacceptable. There are other ways to reveal information from them. Using the tactic of torture for punishment, domination and convincing is terrible.

 
Torturing activities usually occurs with prisoners, when police attempt to obtain information from them. Argument against torture states that torture is not the effective method for revealing information and most often victim reveals what opponent wants to hear, not reality. There are basically three possible outcomes which victims may provide when being tortured, firstly is the misleading confession in order to stop torture; secondly he or she may provides truthful information due to fear and thirdly, victims know the truth but divert the subject’s attention by providing false information.

Torture has also been used as a method of effecting political claims and coercions. Political parties use torturing activities in order to obtain votes from communities. Argument against torture declared that compulsion does not work today, as it has been considered unethical and immoral act which is never abide by the communities. According to Article 5 of the UN universal Declaration of Human Rights, torture is considered to be human rights’ violation and is totally prohibited under most country’s international and domestic laws.

 
As torturing has been considered as immoral, unethical and totally unacceptable, instead of adopting such torment methods, countries should develop precise laws and standards to overcome those cruel acts.
