The time period that was seventeenth century colonial America was very distinct from today’s times. The society that subsists at that time had very contrasted spectacle on life and how it should occur. The daily routines were very different ours even tough it may be hard to give credence to. Even families, which seem to be a non-changing party in history, were also different in size and order.

Numerous of the British North American colonies that in due time shaped the United States of America were accepted in the seventeenth century by men and women, who, in the face of European oppression, restrict to trade-off intimately held religious beliefs and fled Europe. America in colonial days was a land of farmers. On migrating to America people found no great cities with countless openings for the industrious and thrifty, no great industries with salaried positions awaiting them. They found only a boundless, unplowed area, which included the valleys, the plains, the limitless series of rolling hills, crowned with ancient forest, and from this they must clear the timbers and probe into the soil for their daily bread. There were a few ministers and painters, rulers and merchants, but their combined numbers were not many compared with the great body of the people, the farmers.

American history has been in a large scale in the history of the colonization of the Great West. The frontier was the line of the most speedy and effective Americanization. The frontier promoted the formation of a composite nationality for the American people. The legislation which most developed the powers of the national government, and played the largest part in its activity, was modified on the frontier. The pioneer needed the goods of the coast, and so the grand series of internal improvements and railroad legislation began, with powerful nationalizing effects. But the most important effect of the frontier has been the betterment of democracy here and in Europe. As has been indicated, the frontier is productive of individualism. It produces repulsion to control, and particularly to any direct control.

Enlightenment thinkers found a lot to cherish in the firmness and elasticity of British society. The events of the 17th c. had confirmed both the need for a powerful monarchy and the part of Parliament in defending nobility interests.

The concept of government, that the 13 colonies will be commanded by the will of the people, matured from the modifying views of the world. The medieval view led to the Renaissance, which led to the Enlightenment, which then led to the Declaration of Independence.  In concluding with the debate on the everyday trials and unpredictable changes of colonial America, it is easy for one to note the very stupendous variance between that time and today’s modern society.
