It is commonly heard that ‘where there is a problem, there is a solution’. In this mortal world there is a way out of everything except ‘death and decay’. Every person comes across numerous troubles during his life span; however, the volume and magnitude differs. Only yesterday I came across one such problem that was really going to push me into a crisis.

I own a small two-bedroom apartment in main city center. Since I am single I have rented one room to a lady working for an advertisement agency. Being an artist and an interior decorator, I possess a natural aesthetic sense and inclination towards beauty, decoration, hygiene and cleanliness. For me the most unbearable thing in my life is mismanaged and ill-maintained household and that also I told my paying guest the very first day. Besides her good qualities she is very careless in domestic affairs and issues relating to personal and collective hygiene. Her room always looks like a storeroom. During last eight months of her stay I told her a number of times about the only thing that bothers me a lot but there had been no outcome of my repetitious sermons.

Yesterday morning I came home from a five-day foreign tour and found the entire household in a real mess. The kitchen was awfully dirty with all the crockery and spoons badly stained. Tired and bored with the hectic trip, I lost my temper and called her attention towards the unbearable situation. As usual she gave a cold shoulder and instead of getting embarrassed she shouted back at me and said that she is going to make some other arrangement soon. For the following few hours the scenario remained tense. I started looking for another paying guest and succeeded to contact one by evening. After that I called her for a final word. This time the conversation went on in a lighter note. Finally, both of us landed at a conclusion that called for finding a viable solution to the problem and to explore a middle path. She agreed to comply with my requirements and to maintain the expected cleanliness standards we drafted a schedule of the domestic responsibilities and divided duties equally. The tension withered away and problem was easily dissolved. After hours of tension we had a peaceful and sound sleep in the night.

From the above episode I concluded that problems always escalate when taken emotionally and aggressively. On the other hand, one can always find a workable way out when tackles it logically and cool-mindedly. My problem was a small one but if it were not meticulously tackled, it would have cause disastrous effects. The same is true for local, national and international crisis that are required to be handled with extreme care. One should always remember that crisis is better resolved on a discussion table rather than in battlefields.
