College Term Paper on Personal
Experience
When I was in Spain I frequently had
colds, antibiotics and medicine were the routine in my life. When I was
about eleven years old, I suffered from acute pneumonia; the disease
affected me so much that I started realizing the significance of taking care
of myself.
When I got pneumonia, I started to feel itchy. First, I thought that I had
an ordinary cold. But I felt very tired, and my body started wavering.
Without any delay my Father called the ambulance. I was almost faint so I
can barely recall anything that happened on that horrible night. But, I can
still recall that my father was standing beside me for the entire night.
I was so worried that I told my father that I am about to die. He held my
hands and then he said, “Don’t be stupid. You are not dying. This is not a
severe disease. You are a fearless boy”. He started stroking my face gently
with his palms. I could see that my face was red instead of pale because of
high fever. After his words, I tried to control myself and tried to be a
brave, and after few minutes my fear of death vanished.
When I opened my eyes again I said to my father, "Father, please do not
worry, I am felling much better now, I am sure I will be well soon."
Then the doctor took my body temperature. I was surprise that my body
temperature was 105F, as I was feeling much better. He put a bag full of ice
on my forehead to lower the temperature my head, and then he gave me some
medicines and after some time I fell asleep.
On the next day when I woke up, I found my father was still sitting beside
me and as soon as I opened eyes he said, "Son are you feeling better now?",
"Much better, I am just feeling little bit sleepy. Father, did you sleep
last night?” I replied. He said, "I am all right son, do not move. My dear
son, you are still weak. Your fever is almost gone, but your disease has not
been cured completely. All you need is rest”
The following days were really hard for me. Although temperature of my body
was normal, I was still not able to move because the fever had damaged my
vitality. I was given three intravenous injections daily, these injections
were necessary to treat the disease and to help myself recover as soon as
possible.
I was discharged from the hospital fifteen days later. Whenever I recall
this incident, I treat it as one of turning point experience of my life. I
learned that now matter what it takes, parent never disappoint their
children and they never let their children down at any moment. Now my father
and I became more close to each other. Moreover, I have become more
aggressive and braver towards any challenges. I also realize the
significance of life.
